Adala UK Calls Upon The Telegraph to Respect International Recognition of Polisario Front
Adala UK, has submitted a formal complaint to The Telegraph (letter) regarding a recent article that labelled the Polisario Front as a terrorist organisation. The letter strongly objects to this portrayal, calling it inaccurate, misleading, and harmful to efforts for peace in Western Sahara.
The organisation explains that the Polisario Front is the legitimate representative of the Saharawi people, recognised by the United Nations and the African Union. Comparing it to a terrorist group distorts international legal realities and echoes historical injustices faced by liberation movements such as the African National Congress.
Adala UK also criticises the article for ignoring well-documented human rights violations committed by Moroccan authorities in Western Sahara, including torture, arbitrary detention, and suppression of peaceful protest. The group expresses concern that this type of reporting aligns with a shift in UK foreign policy that favours Morocco’s controversial autonomy plan over Saharawi self-determination.
The letter calls on The Telegraph to:
- Retract or clarify its claims about the Polisario Front.
- Allow Adala UK to publish a response.
- Review editorial standards for accuracy and neutrality in international coverage.
Adala UK urges the newspaper to uphold journalistic integrity and contribute to balanced, informed public discourse.
