Upholding International Law: Adala UK’s Letter to the President of the United States
On 29 October 2025, Adala UK sent a formal letter to the President of the United States via the U.S. Embassy in London regarding the ongoing situation in Western Sahara. The correspondence addresses recent reports suggesting support for Moroccan sovereignty over the territory and the proposed establishment of an autonomy framework under Morocco’s rule.
In the letter, we emphasized that Western Sahara remains a Non-Self-Governing Territory, and that its people alone hold the inalienable right to determine their political status and future. Any attempt to impose autonomy without the consent of the Sahrawi people would amount to annexation, in direct violation of international law, the United Nations Charter, and multiple UN resolutions affirming the right of self-determination.
As a leading organization committed to justice, human rights, and the rule of law, Adala UK calls on global leaders, particularly the United States, to respect and uphold the principles of international law and self-determination. Upholding these principles is not merely a legal obligation it is a moral imperative. True peace and durable solutions can never be built upon the denial of a people’s fundamental rights.
By sending this letter through the U.S. Embassy in London, Adala UK ensures that its message reaches the highest levels of U.S. leadership, reinforcing the importance of international legal obligations and the protection of human rights.
It is also important to note that the U.S. Department of State recognizes Adala UK as a credible source, relying on many of our reports regarding human rights conditions worldwide. This recognition underscores the legitimacy and reliability of our work, as well as the significance of our advocacy in defending international law and human rights.
This correspondence reaffirms Adala UK’s steadfast commitment to defending international law, protecting human dignity, and ensuring that the voices of marginalized peoples are heard and respected.
