Adala UK Calls on The Times to Honour UN Recognition of Polisario Front
Adala UK has formally written to the editor of The Times to express serious concerns over an article published on 20 February 2025, which misrepresented key facts about the Western Sahara conflict and the status of the Polisario Front.
The article, which focused on the controversy surrounding a film shoot in Dakhla, referred to the Polisario Front as a “separatist group” and inaccurately claimed that it had unilaterally abandoned a ceasefire in 2020. It also suggested that the UK supports Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara — a position the UK government has explicitly denied in recent correspondence with Adala UK.
In our letter, we highlight the UN’s recognition of the Polisario as the legitimate representative of the Sahrawi people, the illegality of Morocco’s occupation, and the UK’s continued support for a UN-led process towards Sahrawi self-determination. We also requested a right of reply for Adala UK, the Polisario Front, or an independent Sahrawi voice to ensure balanced coverage.
Adala UK calls on The Times to uphold journalistic standards and correct the inaccuracies presented in the article.
