Adala UK raises issue of human rights in Occupied Territories with Douglas Alexander MP

imageOn 26th January, The British Labour Party presented its proposed foreign policy and ‘internationalist vision’, to be implemented should the party win the upcoming general election in May, to representatives of UK NGOs. The meeting, entitled “One Nation, One World: The next chapter in the international history of the Labour Party”, involved more than 40 NGOs as well as media representatives.

Adala UK took this opportunity to raise the issue of human rights violations in the Occupied Territories of Western Sahara with Labour MPs and shared a dossier with the profiles of Saharawi political prisoners with Douglas Alexander, Mary Creagh, Caroline Flint and Ian Lucas.

Douglas Alexander MP personally reaffirmed to Adala UK the strong position his party takes on supporting self-determination of the Saharawi people and respect for human rights in Western Sahara.

Both UK government coalition parties – Conservatives and Liberal Democrats – as well as Labour have declared their support for the self-determination of the Saharawi people, a few months before the meeting of the UN Security Council in April.
