H.E. Ban Ki-Moon, General Secretary of the United Nations,
The Saharawi political prisoners detained in Morocco and Western Sahara are victims of brutal and vicious treatment. Their incarceration is due only to their peaceful participation in demonstrations; the showing of the national flag; the defence of their cultural heritage; their active but peaceful pursuit of a long-lasting solution for their people, which is the referendum as defined by a long series of UN resolutions.
Most Saharawi political prisoners have been subjected to torture, and false confessions have been obtained under pressure and torture.
I appeal to you to put pressure on the Kingdom of Morocco to free all Saharawi political prisoners.
The Saharawi people deserve to live in peace and freedom. They have respected all the UN demands and fight in a peaceful manner for their rights. The Kingdom of Morocco, on the other hand, can be seen to disrespect all international covenants and agreements it subscribes to, violate human rights and international law.
Please do not let the Saharawi suffer any longer.
Respectfully,
