In a strongly worded letter dated 13 July 2025, Adala UK expressed its deep concern over GreenGo Energy\u2019s engagement in the Dakhla region an area under Moroccan military occupation in violation of international law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to investigations by\u00a0<strong>Danwatch<\/strong>, and documented <strong>communications<\/strong> from\u00a0<strong>Western Sahara Resource Watch (WSRW)<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Global Aktion<\/strong>, GreenGo Energy pursued commercial contracts in the region with the Moroccan authorities. The company reportedly opened an office in Dakhla and misleadingly referred to the occupied territory as part of \u201cMorocco\u201d a serious misrepresentation that disregards the territory\u2019s legal status and the rights of its indigenous people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In its <a href=\"https:\/\/adalauk.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/Letter-to-Green-Energy-.pdf\"><strong>letter<\/strong><\/a> addressed to Mr. Anders Heine Jensen, CEO of GreenGo Energy, Adala UK recalled that the\u00a0<strong>Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs<\/strong>\u00a0had refused to support the company\u2019s project, reaffirming Denmark\u2019s and the EU\u2019s consistent position: Western Sahara is \u201ca Non Self Governing Territory\u201d separate and distinct from Morocco. Despite this, GreenGo Energy failed to disclose the Danish government\u2019s stance in its communications with civil society organisations a concerning omission that Adala UK described as \u201cethically questionable.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adala UK cited key legal frameworks in its message, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>The\u00a0<strong>2002 UN Legal Opinion<\/strong>, which affirmed Morocco\u2019s lack of sovereignty over Western Sahara.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Rulings from the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU)<\/strong>\u00a0in 2016, 2018, and 2024, which reiterated that EU-Morocco agreements cannot lawfully apply to Western Sahara without the\u00a0<strong>free, prior, and informed consent<\/strong>of the Saharawi people.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>International humanitarian law, which prohibits resource exploitation in occupied territories without the consent of the occupied population.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The letter further reminded GreenGo Energy that any activity conducted in occupied Western Sahara without the legitimate consent of its people represented by the\u00a0<strong>Polisario Front<\/strong>, the UN-recognised representative of the Saharawi people is both illegal and illegitimate.
