Attack by Moroccan forces on Saharawi citizens in the city of Asa (Southern Morrocco)

An attack by Moroccan forces on Saharawi citizens in the city of Asa (Southern Morrocco) was an attempt to put down a peaceful demonstration. The attack included the use of rubber bullets and teargas (methods which contravene international law) as well as forced entry into homes in search of young Saharawis. This attack resulted in the death of the young Saharawi Shin Rashid who was hit by a rubber bullet fired by the Moroccan auxiliary forces. According to witnesses at the scene, Rashid was hit at chest height by a bullet

We at Adala UK express our complete solidarity with the family of the victim.

We call for an independent investigation into the death of this young Saharawi to take those responsible to justice. We denounce these serious human rights violations and illegal forced entries and the use of violence against peaceful protesters.

We call for the release of all those detained following this peaceful protest.

We appeal for the intervention of the UN Security Council to establish a mechanism through which to protect the human rights of Western Sahara in order to guarantee that abuses of this nature are not repeated again.
